In this paper we use a modification of the Newtonian gravitational potential with a non-linear Yukawa-like correction, as it was proposed by C. Will earlier to obtain new bounds on graviton mass from the observed orbits of S-stars around the Galactic Center (GC). This phenomenological potential differs from the gravitational potential obtained in the weak field limit of Yukawa gravity, which we used in our previous studies. We also assumed that the orbital precession of S-stars is close to the prediction of General Relativity (GR) for Schwarzschild precession, but with a possible small discrepancy from it. This assumption is motivated by the fact that the GRAVITY Collaboration in 2020 and in 2022 detected Schwarzschild precession in the S2 star orbit around the Supermassive Black Hole (SMBH) at the GC. Using this approach, we were able to constrain parameter of the potential and, assuming that it represents the graviton Compton wavelength, we also found the corresponding upper bound of graviton mass. The obtained results were then compared with our previous estimates, as well as with the estimates of other authors.

To accurately forecast the future development trend of vegetation in dry areas, it is crucial to continuously monitor phenology, vegetation health indices, and vegetation drought indices over an extended period. This is because drought caused by high temperatures significantly affects vegetation. This study thoroughly investigated the spatial and temporal variations in phenological characteristics and vegetation health indices in the abdominal part of Maowusu Sandland in China over the past 20 years. Additionally, it established a linear correlation between vegetation health and temperature indices in the arid zone. To address the issue of predicting long-term trends in vegetation drought changes, we have developed a method that combines the Informer deep learning model with seasonal and Seasonal Trend decomposition using Loess (STL) and empirical mode decomposition (EMD). Additionally, we have utilized the linearly correlated indices of vegetation health and meteorological data spanning 20 years to predict the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Temperature Vegetation Dryness Index (TVDI). The study’s findings indicate that over the 20-year observation period, there was an upward trend in NDVI, accompanied by a decrease in both the frequency and severity of droughts. Additionally, the STL-EMD-Informer model successfully predicted the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE = 1.16%) of the future trend in vegetation drought changes for the next decade. This suggests that the overall health of vegetation is expected to continue improving during that time. This work examined the plant growth circumstances in dry locations from several angles and developed a complete analytical method for predicting long-term droughts. The findings provide a strong scientific basis for ecological conservation and vegetation management in arid regions.

Byers Peninsula is considered one of the largest ice-free areas in maritime Antarctica. Since 2006, the Spanish Polar Program has taken part in a large number of environmental studies involving the effects of climate change on biological life cycles, limnology, and microbiology. Soils from maritime Antarctica are generally weakly developed and have chemical, physical, and morphological characteristics that are strongly influenced by the parent material. However, biological activity during the short Antarctic summer promotes intense transference of nutrients and organic matter in areas occupied by different species of birds and marine mammals. Mapping and monitoring those areas that are highly occupied by various species could be very useful to create models prepared from satellite images of the edaphic properties. In this approach, deep learning and linear regression models of the soil properties and spectral indexes, which were considered as explicative variables, were used. We trained the models on soil properties closely related to biological activity such as dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and the iron fraction associated with the organic matter (Fe). We tested the best approach to model the spatial distribution of DOC, Fe, and pH by training the linear regression and deep learning models on Sentinel-2 and WorldView-2 images. The most robust models, the pH model built with the deep learning approach on Sentinel images (MAE of 0.51, RMSE of 0.70, and R2 with a residual of −0.49), the DOC model built with linear regression on Sentinel images (MAE of 189.39, RMSE of 342.23, and R2 with a residual of 0.0), and the organic Fe model built with deep learning (MAE of 116.20, RMSE of 209.93, and R2 of −0.05), were used to track possible areas with ornithogenic soils, as well as areas of Byers Peninsula that could be supporting the highest biological development.

In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, the use of social media, particularly Facebook, by destination management organizations (DMOs) for promoting tourism destinations has become increasingly significant. However, the particularities of using this powerful tool in promoting ecotourism destinations have not been sufficiently debated in the literature. To fill this gap, the present study brings a new perspective with the aim of understanding how the Facebook communication strategies of ecotourism destinations in Romania affect user reactions. This research was based on secondary data obtained by examining Facebook posts from seven Romanian ecotourism destinations during a period of six months. The initial step was to analyze the Facebook posts of the selected destinations and to extract major themes present in the posted content. These posts are categorized into themes such as nature, leisure, culture, and hospitality, providing a comprehensive view of the content strategy adopted by these destinations. The findings reveal that posts related to culture and nature are predominant and receive higher user interactions in the form of likes, comments, and shares. Most user reactions were expressed in the form of likes, while the number of comments and shares was quite modest. The analysis of factors influencing user reactions reveals that only the number of posts has a significant impact. Moreover, the post content and post format do not have a significant influence on users’ reactions to destinations’ posted content on Facebook. This study concludes that for the effective online promotion of ecotourism destinations, DMOs should focus on increasing the number and frequency of posts, and on creating content that aligns with audience preferences, particularly emphasizing the main features of the destination. These insights are crucial for DMOs in strategizing their online communication to enhance user reactions and promote their destinations effectively in the competitive sphere of global tourism.

Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) ratings are gaining momentum in China, but their capacity to induce green innovation among heavy polluters remains to be proven. Based on the green patent data from listed heavy-polluting enterprises in China from 2010 to 2020, this paper empirically analyzes the mechanism of ESG ratings and their impact on green innovation using a multi-temporal double-difference method. The findings indicate that ESG ratings effectively promote green innovation in heavily polluting firms. The mechanism test reflects that ESG ratings can enhance the enterprises’ green innovation capacities by alleviating their financing constraints and enhancing their corporate risk-taking abilities. Further analysis reveals that the incentive effect of ESG ratings on green innovation lies in considering both source control and end-of-pipe management by addressing their environmental responsibilities and actively engaging in green innovation activities. This facilitative effect is more significant in non-state-owned enterprises (NSOEs) and large-scale enterprises. Overall, these insights provide empirical evidence to advance green innovation in heavy-polluting enterprises.

LL-37 is the only member of the cathelicidin-type host defense peptide family in humans. It exhibits broad-spectrum bactericidal activity, which represents a distinctive advantage for future therapeutic targets. The presence of choline in the growth medium for bacteria changes the composition and physicochemical properties of their membranes, which affects LL-37’s activity as an antimicrobial agent. In this study, the effect of the LL-37 peptide on the phospholipid monolayers at the liquid–air interface imitating the membranesof Legionella gormanii bacteria was determined. The Langmuir monolayer technique was employed to prepare model membranes composed of individual classes of phospholipids—phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), phosphatidylglycerol (PG), cardiolipin (CL)—isolated from L. gormanii bacteria supplemented or non-supplemented with exogenous choline. Compression isotherms were obtained for the monolayers with or without the addition of the peptide to the subphase. Then, penetration tests were carried out for the phospholipid monolayers compressed to a surface pressure of 30 mN/m, followed by the insertion of the peptide into the subphase. Changes in the mean molecular area were observed over time. Our findings demonstrate the diversified effect of LL-37 on the phospholipid monolayers, depending on the bacteria growth conditions. The substantial changes in membrane properties due to its interactions with LL-37 enable us to propose a feasible mechanism of peptide action at a molecular level. This can be associated with the stable incorporation of the peptide inside the monolayer or with the disruption of the membrane leading to the removal (desorption) of molecules into the subphase. Understanding the role of antimicrobial peptides is crucial for the design and development of new strategies and routes for combating resistance to conventional antibiotics.

This methodological study describes the adaptation of a new method in digital wood anatomy, pixel-contrast densitometry, for angiosperm species. The new method was tested on eight species of shrubs and small trees in Southern Siberia, whose wood structure varies from ring-porous to diffuse-porous, with different spatial organizations of vessels. A two-step transformation of wood cross-section photographs by smoothing and Otsu’s classification algorithm was proposed to separate images into cell wall areas and empty spaces within (lumen) and between cells. Good synchronicity between measurements within the ring allowed us to create profiles of wood porosity (proportion of empty spaces) describing the growth ring structure and capturing inter-annual differences between rings. For longer-lived species, 14–32-year series from at least ten specimens were measured. Their analysis revealed that maximum (for all wood types), mean, and minimum porosity (for diffuse-porous wood) in the ring have common external signals, mostly independent of ring width, i.e., they can be used as ecological indicators. Further research directions include a comparison of this method with other approaches in densitometry, clarification of sample processing, and the extraction of ecologically meaningful data from wood structures.

Geopolymer concrete (GPC) is a novel and environmentally friendly type of concrete that eliminates the use of cement, resulting in a significant reduction in carbon emissions and a more sustainable construction material. Alkaline activators are used in GPC to achieve rapid strength development. The most popular alkaline activators are sodium/potassium silicate and sodium/potassium hydroxide, which are known contributors to carbon emissions, hence limiting the advantages of GPC; therefore, reducing the amount of these alkaline activators that contribute to carbon emissions is necessary for developing a more sustainable geopolymer concrete. In this study, the influence of the variation in sodium hydroxide molarities on the performance of fly ash/sugarcane bagasse ash-based-geopolymer concrete was investigated. The different molarities used were 10 M, 12 M, 14 M, and 16 M sodium hydroxide solutions. In addition, the effect of sugarcane bagasse ash content (0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%) on the fresh and hardened geopolymer concrete properties were examined. The slump test, compression test, split tensile test, and flexure test were conducted on the cast samples. The results of this study showed that raising the concentration of NaOH from 10 M to 16 M while maintaining a sodium silicate to sodium hydroxide ratio of 2.5 resulted in a 3.75–10.2% improvement in compressive strength after 28 days. It is worth noting that, even at a concentration of 10 M, the concrete still achieved high strength.

The goal of plastic periodontal surgery is to obtain complete root coverage, increasing gingival thickness (GT), a positive prognostic factor for gingival margin stability over time. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of the Coronally Advanced Flap (CAF) in RT1 (GR; gingival recession with no loss of interproximal attachment) when associated with a connective tissue graft from the maxillary tuberosity (tCTG) or with leukocyte and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) membranes in obtaining root coverage and increasing the thickness and width of the keratinized tissue, along with aesthetic improvement, taking into account a number of patient-related outcomes. Thirty patients with two adjacent RT1 GRs (GRs with no loss of interproximal attachment) were each treated using CAF associated with tCTG (15 patients) or L-PRF. The main outcome was a GT increase; secondary outcomes were keratinized tissue width (KT), gingival recession (GR), probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), root coverage percentage (RC%), complete root coverage (CRC), and root coverage esthetic score (RES). Patient-reported outcomes were discomfort (D), dentine hypersensitivity (DH), patient-related esthetic score (PRES), and overall treatment satisfaction (OTS). After 12 months, clinical and patient-reported parameters did not show significant differences between groups, with the only exception being a GT gain, which was significantly greater in the CAF+tCTG group. Our results showed that both techniques were effective in treating RT1 GRs, with comparable patient-related outcomes. However, the use of tCTG produces significantly thicker tissue, covering the exposed root surface.

The construction sector must incorporate the circular economy to improve sustainability and efficiency. The use of recycled aggregates (RAs) as a substitute for natural aggregates (NAs) is currently being investigated and is expected to yield considerable benefits in the future. The objective of this research is to evaluate the environmental and economic benefits of using recycled coarse aggregates (RCAs) in different 1 m3 samples of concrete, substituting the natural coarse aggregate (NCAs) with RCAs in different percentages. RCAs generally come from the treatment of construction and demolition wastes (CDWs). However, in this research, the RCAs are the concrete block wastes (CBWs) generated by a concrete production plant. Among the most notable results is that compared to concrete with no RCAs, using alternatives in which RCAs have replaced 50% of the NCAs leads to an average decrease in impact category statistics of −3.30%. In contrast to the existing literature on the subject, the process of producing RCAs generated efficiency improvements in categories such as abiotic depletion of fossil fuels (−58.72%) and global warming potential (−85.13%). This is because the transport process, a key factor in determining the viability of using RAs instead of NAs, was eliminated. In economic terms, there is a slight decrease in the financial cost of producing 1 m3 of concrete as the quantity of RCAs increases. The maximum decrease was 0.23 €/m3 in the samples studied. Combining both the environmental and economic aspects resulted in a reduction factor of 0.420 g of CO2/€cent, which means fewer CO2 emissions per unit cost when using RCAs. In conclusion, these results are intended to further knowledge in the field of using RAs instead of NAs in order to help the sector achieve sustainability and find an alternative use for a particular type of business waste.

Neurodevelopmental disorders are a group of complex multifactorial disorders characterized by cognitive impairment, communication deficits, abnormal behaviour, and/or motor skills resulting from abnormal neural development. Copy number variants (CNVs) are genetic alterations often associated with neurodevelopmental disorders. We evaluated the diagnostic efficacy of the array-comparative genomic hybridization (a-CGH) method and its relevance as a routine diagnostic test in patients with neurodevelopmental disorders for the identification of the molecular alterations underlying or contributing to the clinical manifestations. In the present study, we analysed 1800 subjects with neurodevelopmental disorders using a CGH microarray. We identified 208 (7%) pathogenetic CNVs, 2202 (78%) variants of uncertain significance (VOUS), and 504 (18%) benign CNVs in the 1800 patients analysed. Some alterations contain genes potentially related to neurodevelopmental disorders including CHRNA7, ANKS1B, ANKRD11, RBFOX1, ASTN2, GABRG3, SHANK2, KIF1A SETBP1, SNTG2, CTNNA2, TOP3B, CNTN4, CNTN5, and CNTN6. The identification of interesting significant genes related to neurological disorders with a-CGH is therefore an essential step in the diagnostic procedure, allowing a better understanding of both the pathophysiology of these disorders and the mechanisms underlying their clinical manifestations.

We compared the perioperative outcomes of open (ORC) vs. robot-assisted (RARC) radical cystectomy in the treatment of pT4a MIBC. In total, 212 patients underwent ORC (102 patients, Group A) vs. RARC (110 patients, Group B) for pT4a bladder cancer. Patients were prospectively followed and retrospectively reviewed. We assessed operative time, estimated blood loss (EBL), intraoperative and postoperative complications, length of stay, transfusion rate, and oncological outcomes. Preoperative features were comparable. The mean operative time was 232.8 vs. 189.2 min (p = 0.04), and mean EBL was 832.8 vs. 523.7 mL in Group A vs. B (p = 0.04). An intraoperative transfusion was performed in 32 (31.4%) vs. 11 (10.0%) cases during ORC vs. RARC (p = 0.03). The intraoperative complications rate was comparable. The mean length of stay was shorter after RARC (12.6 vs. 7.2 days, p = 0.02). Postoperative transfusions were performed in 36 (35.3%) vs. 13 (11.8%) cases (p = 0.03), and postoperative complications occurred in 37 (36.3%) vs. 29 (26.4%) patients in Groups A vs. B (p = 0.05). The positive surgical margin (PSM) rate was lower after RARC. No differences were recorded according to the oncological outcomes. ORC and RARC are feasible treatments for the management of pT4a bladder tumors. Minimally invasive surgery provides shorter operative time, bleeding, transfusion rate, postoperative complications, length of stay, and PSM rate.

In this study, concurrent enhancements in both strength and ductility of the Al-2Li-2Cu-0.5Mg-0.2Zr cast alloy (hereafter referred to as Al-Li) were achieved through an optimized forming process comprising ultrasonic treatment followed by squeeze casting, coupled with the incorporation of Sc. Initially, the variations in the microstructure and mechanical properties of the Sc-free Al-Li cast alloy (i.e., alloy A) during various forming processes were investigated. The results revealed that the grain size in the UT+SC (ultrasonic treatment + squeeze casting) alloy was reduced by 76.3% and 57.7%, respectively, compared to those of the GC (gravity casting) or SC alloys. Additionally, significant improvements were observed in its compositional segregation and porosity reduction. After UT+SC, the ultimate tensile strength (UTS), yield strength (YS), and elongation reached 235 MPa, 135 Mpa, and 15%, respectively, which were 113.6%, 28.6%, and 1150% higher than those of the GC alloy. Subsequently, the Al-Li cast alloy containing 0.2 wt.% Sc (referred to as alloy B) exhibited even finer grains under the UT+SC process, resulting in simultaneous enhancements in its UTS, YS, and elongation. Interestingly, the product of ultimate tensile strength and elongation (i.e., UTS × EL) for both alloys reached 36 GPa•% and 42 GPa•%, respectively, which is much higher than that of other Al-Li cast alloys reported in the available literature.

The study of satellite performance evaluation can reveal the ability of satellite systems to fulfil corresponding tasks in the space environment, and provide information support for the resource allocation and mission scheduling of in-orbit satellites. In this paper, we took the satellite attitude control system in attitude tracking mode as the research object. In accordance with the system’s mission requirements, the control performance evaluation indicator set, characterized by a generalized grey number, is constructed to tackle the uncertainty and inadequacy of information contained in flight status data resulting from the complex space operating environment and sensor measurement noise. An improved principal component analysis method based on generalized grey number is proposed to solve the weight amplification caused by the correlation between performance indicators and realize the weight allocation of the indicators. Finally, the grey-target decision model is established to determine the weights of the performance indicators, and the performance evaluation model is established under the tracking mode. The feasibility of the grey-target decision-evaluation model based on the improved principal component is confirmed through comparative experiments.

In recent years, the use of timber as a building material in larger construction applications such as multi-story buildings and bridges has increased. This requires a better understanding of the material to realize such constructions and design them more economically. However, accurate computational simulations of timber structures are challenging due to the complexity and inhomogeneity of this naturally grown material. It exhibits growth inhomogeneities such as knots and fiber deviations, orthotropic material behavior and moisture dependence of almost all physical parameters. Describing the creep response of wood under real climate conditions is particularly difficult. Changes in moisture content, plasticity and viscoelasticity affect moisture-induced stresses and potentially lead to cracks and structural damage. In this paper, we apply a material model that combines time and moisture-dependent behavior with multisurface plasticity to simulate cross-sections of different dimensions over a 14-month climate period. Our findings indicate that considering this long-term behavior has a minor impact on moisture-induced stresses during the drying period. However, during the wetting period, neglecting the time- and moisture-dependent material behavior of wood leads to a significant overestimation of tensile stresses within the cross-section, resulting in unrealistic predictions of wetting-induced fracture. Therefore, simulations during wetting periods require a sophisticated rheological model to properly reproduce the stress field.

Acidovorax citrulli populations exhibit genetic and phenotypic variations, particularly in terms of copper tolerance. Group I strains of A. citrulli generally exhibit higher copper tolerance compared to group II strains. This study aims to identify genes involved in copper tolerance to better understand the differences in copper tolerance between group I and group II strains. Representative strains pslb65 (group I) and pslbtw14 (group II) were selected for comparison. Deletion mutants of putative copper-tolerance genes and their corresponding complementary strains were constructed. The copper tolerance of each strain was evaluated using the minimum inhibitory concentration method. The results showed that the copA, copZ, cueR, and cueO genes played major roles in copper tolerance in A. citrulli, while cusC-like, cusA-like, and cusB-like genes had minor effects. The different expression levels of copper-tolerance-related genes in pslb65 and pslbtw14 under copper stress indicated that they had different mechanisms for coping with copper stress. Overall, this study provides insights into the mechanisms of copper tolerance in A. citrulli and highlights the importance of specific genes in copper tolerance.

Background: There is growing interest in finding methods to enhance cognitive function and comprehend the neurophysiological mechanisms that underlie these improvements. It is assumed that non-pharmacological interventions have better results in cognitive recovery. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of multi-task cognitive training (MTT) on electroencephalographic (EEG) changes and markers of the neurovascular unit in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Methods: This prospective cohort study involved 62 CABG patients aged 45–75 years, 30 of whom underwent a 5–7-day MTT course. The groups of patients were comparable with respect to baseline clinical and anamnestic characteristics. An EEG study was performed before surgery and 11–12 days after CABG. Markers of the neurovascular unit (S100β, NSE, and BDNF) were examined at three time points: before surgery, within the first 24 h after surgery, and 11–12 days after CABG. Results: Patients without training demonstrated higher relative theta power changes compared to the MTT patients. The course of MTT was associated with low plasma S100β concentration but high BDNF levels at the end of the training course. Conclusions: The theta activity changes and the markers of the neurovascular unit (S100β, BDNF) indicated that the severity of brain damage in cardiac surgery patients after a short course of MTT was slightly reduced. Electrical brain activity indicators and vascular markers can be informative for monitoring the process of cognitive rehabilitation in cardiac surgery patients.

The use of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) residue as a crop culture substrate has unique advantages in alleviating the obstacles associated with continuous monocropping, such as increasing production, improving quality and alleviating pests and diseases. However, the effect of TCM residue application on substrates in continuous monocropping practices has not been determined. In this study, the cucumber variety “Jinyou No. 10” was used as the material, and fermented TCM residue, vermiculite and perlite were used as organic substrates (3:1:1). The cucumbers were cultivated on substrates for different durations of continuous monocropping, which were the first cropping cycle (A1), second cropping cycle (A2), third cropping cycle (A3) and fourth cropping cycle (A4). The control (A0) was the substrate sample without any crop planted in it. After the cucumbers were harvested, substrate samples (areas around the cucumber roots) were collected. The physiochemical properties of the cultivated substrates were determined, and the microbial community structures were analyzed through 16S rRNA and ITS sequencing. The physiochemical indices of the substrates with different durations of continuous monocropping (A1–A4) were significantly different than those of the control (A0) substrate. Moreover, the continuous cropping of cucumber had greater effects on fungal communities than on bacterial communities. Bacterial community structure analysis revealed a greater proportion of important bacterial taxa (Proteobacteria, Chloroflexi, and Nitrospirae) in the continuous monocropping substrates than in the A0 substrate. For the fungal community, Ascomycota accounted for the largest percentage of the fungal community in all the samples. The diversity of the microbial community was found to be influenced primarily by electrical conductivity, organic matter content, pH and total potassium content according to the correlation analysis of physicochemical properties and relative abundance of the microbial community. Our study would provide a basis for addressing persistent challenges in continuous cropping and for obtaining the utmost benefit from using TCM organic residue waste.

Self-oscillatory systems have great utility in energy harvesting, engines, and actuators due to their ability to convert ambient energy directly into mechanical work. This characteristic makes their design and implementation highly valuable. Due to the complexity of the motion process and the simultaneous influence of multiple parameters, computing self-oscillatory systems proves to be challenging, especially when conducting inverse parameter design. To simplify the computational process, a combined approach o0f Random Forest (RF) and Backpropagation Neural Network (BPNN) algorithms is employed. The example used is a self-rotating skipping rope made of liquid crystal elastomer (LCE) fiber and a mass block under illumination. Numerically solving the governing equations yields precise solutions for the rotation frequency of the LCE skipping rope under various system parameters. A database containing 138,240 sets of parameter conditions and their corresponding rotation frequencies is constructed to train the RF and BPNN models. The training outcomes indicate that RF and BPNN can accurately predict the self-rotating skipping rope frequency under various parameters, demonstrating high stability and computational efficiency. This approach allows us to discover the influences of distinct parameters on the rotation frequency as well. Moreover, it is capable of inverse design, meaning it can derive the corresponding desired parameter combination from a given rotation frequency. Through this study, a deeper understanding of the dynamic behavior of self-oscillatory systems is achieved, offering a new approach and theoretical foundation for their implementation and construction.

Magnetic resonance wireless power transmission consists of a source coil and relay coil (transmission coil (Tx-coil), receiving coil (Rx-coil)). The relay coil is designed with windings and a series capacitor, which are resonant with the input voltage frequency. Magnetic resonant wireless power transmission by a relay coil enables the transmission of power from a few centimeters to several meters. Recently, research has been conducted on the shape and material of each coil to increase the transmission distance. However, limitations remain with respect to increasing the transmission distance. Specifically, the optimization of the electrical characteristics of the relay coil is necessary to increase the transmission distance and improve efficiency. In this study, we configured the inductance of the relay coil to be approximately 95 μH, 270 μH, and 630 μH. Accordingly, we designed the series capacitors to have the same resonant frequency and analyzed the transmission characteristics of each relay coil. We confirmed that as the inductance increased, the transmission efficiency increased by up to 10%. The relay coil was designed to have an inductance of approximately three to six times that of the source coil (load coil). Thus, the optimal design of the relay coil is believed to be the most efficient and economical coil design.

Background: Maternal–child health suggests the critical impact of maternal nutrition during the pre-conception and gestational periods, with some genetic variants also playing a significant role. Our systematic review provides an overview of epidemiological studies exploring the interactions between genetic variants, maternal dietary habits, and neonatal and/or maternal pregnancy outcomes. Methods: From its inception until June 2023, we conducted a comprehensive literature search on PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases. Results: On a total of 29 epidemiological studies, 11 studies were conducted to explore the interplay between genetic variants and dietary factors, focusing on the risks associated with gestational diabetes mellitus, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, recurrent spontaneous abortion, recurrent pregnancy loss, iron deficiency anemia, and gestational weight gain. Concerning neonatal outcomes, six studies investigated the interplay between genetic variants, dietary factors, and anthropometric measures, while eight studies delved into abnormal embryonic development, two studies focused on preterm birth, and two studies explored other neonatal outcomes. Conclusions: Deeply understanding gene–diet interactions could be useful in developing highly personalized approaches to maternal and child nutrition, as well as in exploring the potential implications in disease prevention and the promotion of the long-term well-being of both mothers and their offspring.

Flotation separation of magnesite from dolomite in the presence of SSZS (sodium silicate modified with zinc sulfate) as an inhibitor and NaOL (sodium oleate) as a collector has been studied via flotation tests, zeta potential measurements, contact angle measurements, and Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy analysis (FT-IR). The flotation tests show that NaOL has strong collecting capacity in magnesite and dolomite flotation, so it is difficult to separate two minerals via flotation without inhibitors. SSZS is used as the depressant, which can selectively inhibit dolomite flotation and has little depression effect on magnesite. Zeta potential measurements, contact angle measurements, and FT-IR analysis indicate that SSZS can adsorb strongly onto dolomite’s surface and has a weak adsorption effect on magnesite. The adsorption of SSZS prevents NaOL from acting on the surface of dolomite. On the contrary, because there is little adsorption of SSZS onto magnesite, NaOL can still adsorb onto magnesite’s surface.

Dongbei Suaicai (DBSC) has a complicated microbial ecosystem in which the composition and metabolism of microbial communities during the process have not been well explored. Here, combined metagenomic and metaproteomic technology was used to reveal the taxonomic and metabolic profiles of DBSC. The results showed that firmicutes and proteobacteria were the prevalent bacteria in phylum and Pseudomonas, while Weissella, Pediococcus, and Leuconostoc were the prevalent genus. The vital metabolic pathways were involved in glycolysis/gluconeogenesis [path: ko00010], as well as pyruvate metabolism [path: ko00620], fructose and mannose metabolism [path: Ko00051], glycine, and serine and threonine metabolism [path: Ko00260]. Moreover, the key proteins (dps, fliC, tsf, fusA, atpD, metQ, pgi, tpiA, eno, alaS, bglA, tktA, gor, pdhD, aceE, and gnd) in related metabolized pathways were enriched during fermentation. This study will aid in facilitating the understanding of the fermentation mechanisms of DBSC.
