For a strong upwelling wind, the plume will widen and become separated from the coast if the wind lasts for a long enough period (Magaldi et al., 2010; Fong et al., 1997; Fong and Geyer, 2001). The Burdekin River estuary (Fig. 1), The Burdekin River, located in north and far north Queensland, is the largest source of sediment to the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) lagoon.
