Abstract

Sm4As3, Sm4Sb3 and the high pressure phase of Sm4Bi3 are interesting materials in which a dense Kondo state with high Kondo temperature (TK) and ferromagnetism coexist. Its magnetic behavior is rather different from those of the usual magnetic materials. We have done a preliminary model calculation of the magnetic susceptibility. The result indicates that the anomalous magnetic behavior of these compounds is due to the competition of large ferromagnetic exchange and the Kondo effect.
