New Damselflies of the Family Kennedyidae (Odonata: Protozygoptera) from the Upper Permian of the Vologda Region

Abstract

A new species of damselfly of the family Kennedyidae: Kennedya suchonensis sp. nov. is described from the Upper Permian (Severodvinian) deposits of the Isady locality (Vologda Region, Velikoustyugsky District). Despite the continuity of the main features of wing venation, new species has an unusual structure of the stem’s discoidal area. This structure is not typical of known Paleozoic damselflies, which allows us to re-consider the morphogenesis of this structure. The evolutionary relationships between damselflies of Isady and other kennedyids are discussed.
