The crystal and molecular structure of Tricarbonyl (Triphenylphosphonium cyclopentadienylide)chromium

Abstract

As part of a project which studies the behaviour of chemical bonds in tricarbonylchromium complexes with γ5-phosphorines we report on the structure determination of the title compound, [C5H4P(C6H5)3] · Cr(CO)3, prepared by Dimroth and Lückoff. The structure shows that the phosphorusatom is only slightly out of the cyclopentadienylplane and bended in the direction away from the metal atom. The Cr(CO)3 group occupies a central position above the cyclopentadienylring. The crystals are triclinic, the space group isPl,Z= 2, the cell parameters are a = 11.843(5) Å,b= 10.152(4) Å, c = 9.776(4) Å, α = 93.4(1)°, β = 103.5(2)°, γ = 104.3(1)°. The structure was solved by direct methods. The final R-value is 5.1 % for 3853 observed reflexions.
