Sweden outlines key EU presidency priorities
Article Type: News From: International Journal of Climate Change Strategies and Management, Volume 1, Issue 3
Reducing the EU’s reliance on fossil fuels and raw materials should be one of the European industry’s “guiding principles” in coming years, according to a draft council resolution adopted by EU industry ministers. The draft resolution urges swift action on resource efficiency across all EU policy areas to counteract a continued fall in EU industrial output. It also addresses economic difficulties in sectors such as the chemicals industry and manufacturers of electrical and electronic equipment. It calls on the European commission to monitor the implementation of the REACH chemicals policy and its impacts on businesses, especially superconducting magnetic energy storage. The EU executive should also take up a high-level group’s recommendations to make the sector greener and report on implementation by the end of 2010.
