German industry counts cost of climate ambitions
Article Type: News from the net From: International Journal of Climate Change Strategies and Management, Volume 1, Issue 1
Germany could cut its greenhouse gas emissions by up to 31 per cent from 1990 levels to 2020 without adversely affecting economic growth or quality of life, according to a new report for the Federation of German Industries. The reduction is possible at a cost of around €20 per tonne of carbon dioxide, it said. But deeper cuts to reach a government-agreed target reduction of 40 per cent would inflate costs to as high as €1,000 per tonne of carbon dioxide, according to the research, done by consultants McKinsey.
