Abstract
My colleagues and I were delighted to learn (Physics Bulletin February 1986 p64) that Dr Bryan Kibble of the National Physical Laboratory has been awarded the Duddell Medal and Prize of The Institute of Physics for 1986. We have long been admirers of his contributions to metrology and particularly his elegant method for relating the ampere and the volt to the mechanical units, by which he has shown that the present Josephson volt disseminated by national standards laboratories differs from the si volt by about eight parts in a million.
