The familiar elementary prescription for quantising a classical system, by replacing the generalised momenta by partial derivative operators with respect to the coordinates (pa=-ħ∂/∂qa), is not invariant under the canonical transformations which preserve the form of the classical equations of motion. This means that quantisation is dependent on the choice of coordinates.
