Summary

The pyranometer designed byBringman andRodskjer [3] was fitted with a dome of RG 8. As a consequence of the short-wave radiation absorbed in the dome the response was found to be affected by the gustiness of the wind, but the average response seems to be unaffected by wind fluctuations. The calibration factor shows little dependence on the solar elevation. The spectral response of the pyranometer was examined. Because of the spectral attenuation of the global radiation in a plant cover the sensitivity of the pyranometer to global radiation in a crop may decrease by about 2 per cent from the top to the bottom of the stand.
