Abstract

Elastic neutron scattering measurements characterizing the charge and magnetic order in La0.5Sr1.5MnO4 are presented. Superlattice reflections corresponding to an alternating Mn+3/Mn+4 pattern with wave vector qco=(12,12,0) are observed below the charge ordering temperature, Tco217 K. Below the Néel temperature, TN110 K, the magnetic moments associated with these ions form an ordered structure with dimensions 22a×22a×2c relative to the underlying chemical cell.
