Abstract

Nuclear γ rays from 200-MeV π± inelastic scattering on V51 were measured. Observed were V51 levels at 0.32, 0.93, 1.61, 1.81, and 2.70 MeV γ ray cross sections were similar for both π±. If the interaction were direct with no distortion on a (1f72)3 proton configuration, the π cross sections would be 1/9 the π+ cross sections.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS V51(π±,π±γ); Eπ±=200 MeV; detected γ's; Ge(Li); measured 90° σ for 320, 930, 1610, and 2700 keV V51 levels.
