Abstract
Cross sections for the elastic scattering of positive and negative pions from calcium at 19.5 and 30 MeV were measured at scattering angles between 18° and 110°. They are compared to the angular distributions predicted by three optical models. Both 19.5 and 30 MeV data agree best with the predictions of a potential whose strengths are taken from a phenomenological potential designed to reproduce anomalously small level shifts and widths in pionic atoms.
