Abstract

The ratio |Mβξir| for the first-forbidden β decay has been studied to discuss the composition of Mβ. Experimental values of |Mβ| and |ir| are estimated from ft values and from the E1 matrix element. The latter was obtained from the (e,ep) reaction through the isobaric analog states in La139, Pr141, and Sm148. The experimental value of the ratio was compared with the theory using a jj-coupling shell model. The result shows good agreement for Ce141 but not always good agreement for Ba139 and Pm148.
