Comment on Nuclear Raman Scattering by Deformed Nuclei in the Giant-Resonance Region

Abstract

Discrepancies between experimental results on nuclear Raman scattering in the giant-resonance region and theoretical predictions are discussed in the light of possible nonresonating contributions from direct transitions into the continuum. It is estimated that a 10-15% contribution may remove the existing differences.
