Chaos and quantum fluctuations in the squeezed double-well potential

Abstract

The generalized Melnikov function is computed for the squeezed double well and is shown to exhibit simple zeros. The effect on the homoclinic behavior due to the renormalization of the barrier height resulting from zero-point oscillations of the phonon is also studied.
