Distribution of backfill pressure on a retaining wall

Conclusions

1. Sokolovskii's theory permits obtaining diagrams of the pressure on retaining walls corresponding to the experimental diagrams with consideration of the boundary conditions along the base of the backfill.

2. The base of the backfill curves the shear lines in the adjacent zone, which leads to a decrease of the backfill pressure on the wall as much as 15% depending on the slope of the base and to lightening of the real structure of a retaining wall.
