Studies on the effect of the sex pheromones of the potato tuberworm moth, Phthorimaea operculella Zeller, in comparison with various light traps

Abstract

A comparison, was made with two butane light traps and an electrical light trap. Of the trapping techniques tested, hightest moth catches were obtained with water pans baited with rubber caps impregnated with the mixture of the pheromone.

This sexual trapping appears as the best procedure to use for agricultural warnings, to check the first flight.

Zusammenfassung

Die Sexualpheromone der Kartoffelmotte, identifiziert als Mischung zweier Isomeren: trans-4, cis-7-, cis-10-tridecatrienylacetat und trans-4, cis-7-tridecadienylacetat, wurden unter Freilandbedingungen in Marokko getester.

Als Vergleichsmittel dienten zwei Butanlichtfanglampen und eine elektrische Lichtfalle. Pheromonfallen, die mit einem auf Gummikapseln aufgebrachten Pheromongemisch ausgerüstet waren, erzielten die höchsten Fangzahlen unter den gegesteten Fangtechniken. Diese Fangmethode mit Sexfallen scheint die beste Möglichkeit für den Warndienst zu sein, den Flugzeitpunkt zu bestimmen.
