Abstract

Transmission electron microscopy of longitudinal sections of 250μm diameter Nb-25% Zr wire has revealed that annealing treatments which maximiseJ c can cause polygonisation of the as-drawn dislocation substructure, precipitation ofα Zr, precipitation ofβ Zr, or recrystallisation ofβ Nb. It is argued that the polygonised structure is the one which is most effective in controllingJ c.

T c data has provided some very useful information for assessing the constitutional state of the material.
