Abstract

The creep behaviour of a Cr-Mo-V steel after seventeen years of service life has been evaluated. The creep behaviour has also been assessed after the material was given a heat treatment designed to extend its creep life. The remnant life of the material is described by a combination of cavity damage and particle coarsening mechanisms. An attempt has been made to correlate the level of internal residual strain with the broadening of X-ray diffraction lines.
