Abstract
During the Volcanic Island Clastic Apron Project (VICAP), south of the Canary Islands, a total of 700 line-km multichannel seismic profiles were acquired. Two prominent reflectors (A and C) were observed alternately: A is the top of the volcanic apron. C, at a depth of about 5.8 s (two way traveltime twt), can be correlated to reflector R7, a marker dated mid-Miocene (16 Ma) at the DSDP site 397. The deepest reflection (E) in the basin was observed at 8 s (twt), which is an atypical oceanic basement.
