A review of connected element radio interferometry directed at establishing an almost internal reference frameThe present status of connected element radio interferometry towards establishing an accurate grid of positions of extragalactic radio sources is reviewed. Many of the problems being encountered are, in general, also faced by very long baseline interferometry.
