Abstract
A SIMPLE rule based on atomic energy-levels rather than intervals has been found for those multiplets which approximate to LS-coupling. The results obtained using this rule are in better agreement with experimental results than either the Landé rule or the rule due to Araki1, which includes a correction for spin-spin interaction.
