Abstract
RADIOMETRIC dates for eastern Iceland have shown considerable scatter (see ref. 1 for a summary). This paper describes the results of the systematic dating of a stratigraphically continuous sequence of lavas (see Figure 1 for the sample locations; nomenclature follows ref. 2, from which further details can be obtained). As some of the lavas have experienced low-grade hydrothermal alteration3 the 40Ar/39Ar step-heating method was chosen, and the results of determinations on 18 samples from 11 sections are set out in Table 1.
