Mantle origin of Cordilleran granites

Abstract

‘Granite’ batholiths of recent destructive margins have strontium isotopes inconsistent with crustal fusion. Associated enormous crustal thicknesses are produced without compressive shortening. These features necessitate accretion by vertical addition of predominantly mantle-derived calcalkaline intrusive and extrusive magmas.
