Abstract
THE mechanism of deposition of lipids in the vessel-wall seen from the point of view of the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis represents the central problem of the latter. In agreement with numerous data1–4, our previous investigations5 proved that in the morphogenesis of both human and experimental atherosclerosis the deposition of lipid substances in the aorta is preceded by an increase of metachromatically stainable mucoid substance.
