Abstract
IN work on the uptake and elimination of volatile anæsthetics by the body, a convenient method is needed to determine their concentrations in blood, brain, liver, muscle, fat, etc. The elimination of these anæsthetics from the blood follows an exponential law. To determine the elimination curve accurately, a large number of samples has to be taken. It is desirable that the total volume of blood removed be as small as possible, and the method has, therefore, to be as sensitive as possible. This applies particularly to the last part of the curve, when the concentrations of the anæsthetic are low, for example, 10–1 p.p.m.
