Catalysis of Metalloporphyrin Formation : a Possible Enzyme Model for Hæm Iron Incorporation

Abstract

RECENT investigations on the incorporation of metal ions into porphyrins solubilized in aqueous detergent solutions have revealed two factors having a marked influence on the reaction-rate. The first is related to the charge on the detergent and has been termed the electrostatic effect ; the second is concerned with the presence of certain chelating agents, and has been termed the co-ordination effect.
