Role of neuroendocrine modulation and biochemistry in the sepsis in Piaractus mesopotamicus
2020, General and Comparative EndocrinologyCitation Excerpt :This biphasic response may be a consequence of the same changes described for T3. The increase of T4 may be a consequence of stimulation of the pituitary by proinflammatory cytokines as observed in rats (Pekary et al., 1994; Ray and Melmed, 1997). Another hypothesis suggests that changes occur between plasma and tissues, as observed in humans for T3 and T4 (Peeters et al., 2005).
Assessment of serum levels of DIO1 and DIO3 in patients diagnosed with COPD
2019, Advances in Medical SciencesCitation Excerpt :Nevertheless, no significant tendency for the correlation of DIO1 activity and the grade of differentiation (G1-G3) of the tumor tissue and the stage of lung cancer was observed [29]. Our results are not in line with the data which indicate that during inflammation, IL-1, IL-6, and other cytokines, reduce the expression levels of DIO1, including its mRNA and activity [13,30] via a different mechanism, for example the NADPH oxidase pathway [31]. During our experiment we also revealed increased levels of DIO3 in COPD as compared to the group of control subjects.
The teleost head kidney: Integrating thyroid and immune signalling
2017, Developmental and Comparative ImmunologyCitation Excerpt :These actions will all lead to a defective organification of iodide and thyroid hormone production. TNFα not only inhibits thyroid hormone production, it also inhibits the activating 5′-deiodination pathway in human and FRTL-5 thyrocytes (Hashimoto et al., 1995; Molnár et al., 2002; Ongphiphadhanakul et al., 1994; Pekary et al., 1994) and the HepG2 hepatocarcinoma cell line (Jakobs et al., 2002). However, in other cell types (Φ1 rat liver carcinoma cells, primary cultures of rat anterior pituitary) TNFα and other pro-inflammatory cytokines do not inhibit but stimulate 5′-deiodination (Baur et al., 2000; Davies et al., 1997).
Transcriptional regulation of mammalian selenoprotein expression
2009, Biochimica et Biophysica Acta - General SubjectsHashimoto's Thyroiditis, but not Treatment of Hypothyroidism, Is Associated with Altered TGF-β1 Levels
2008, Archives of Medical ResearchCitation Excerpt :However, TGF-β levels were not correlated with serum total and free thyroid hormones and TSH levels. It has been shown that TGF-β inhibits 5′-deionidase activity in thyroid cells (17,18). Although thyroid dysfunction and TGF-β levels seem to be associated in the study conducted by Corica et al. (9), our results are not consistent with these data.
