Abstract

  • 1.

    1. The α2-macroglobulin has been isolated from rabbit serum by ammonium sulphate precipitation, gel filtration on Sephadex G-200 and chromatography on diethylaminoethyl-cellulose.

  • 2.

    2. The physical constants of the molecule were: sedimentation coefficient: s°20,w = 19.8 S; electrophoretic mobility: −4.5 × 10−5cm2 V−1 sec−1 at pH 8·6; extinction coefficient, E1cm1% = 8.0; molecular weight: 820,000.

  • 3.

    3. It is a glycoprotein containing 13% carbohydrate: 4.6% hexose, 6.1 % hexosamine, 0.75% 6-desoxyhexose and 1.87% sialic acid.

  • 4.

    4. There is no immunological identity with the other rabbit α-macroglobulin (α1 M).
