Abstract

Thermoanalytical measurements (thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis (DTA) coupled with mass spectroscopy) are used to determine the carbonate content in YBaCuO samples. Up to 0.1 mol carbon dioxide per formula unit, depending on the synthesis procedure, was found in the samples. Simultaneous evolution of oxygen and carbon dioxide from the samples was observed for all compounds (YBa2Cu3O7−χ, YBa2Cu3.5O7.5−χ and YBa2Cu4O8) investigated.
