Abstract

It has been shown that compared to the KdV soliton the solitary wave solution of the Boussinesq equation gives a closer description of the ion acoustic solitary wave. The salient features of the “dressed KdV soliton” results appear as an approximation to the corresponding results for the solitary wave solution of the Boussinesq equation. A fairly good agreement with present experimental findings is obtained.
