Abstract

A systematic magneto-optical study of the one-dimensional Ising-like antiferromagnet CsCoCl3 has been done under high magnetic fields up to 400 kOe. Many sharp lines observed around the transition 4T1(F)-2T1(2P) are successfully classified in terms of the models of spin-cluster-associated, soliton-associated and magnon-associated sidebands. The spin-cluster- and the soliton-associated side bands are the localized modes, while the magnon side band is a uniform mode of the four sublattice network. CsCoCl3 is regarded as a typical magnetic system where the uniform and localized magnetic excitations coexist.
