Abstract

The effects of dilute concentrations of 3d-, 4d-, and 5d-transition metal solutes on magnetic moment and Curie temperature of Co-based amorphous alloys have been investigated. The changes of magnetic properties with transition metal substitutions are similar to those observed for corresponding crystalline Ni-based dilute alloys except thermo-magnetic properties. The effects of transition metal substitutions on magnetic moment in Co-based amorphous alloys are well described in terms of the relative position of the Fermi level and the virtual bound state introduced in the 3d-band of the matrix by the transition metal atoms.
