Diketones containing nitrogen-donor atoms are mainly represented by pyridine derivatives [8–11] and 4-acyl-5-pyrazolones [12,13] (Scheme 1(a)). The latter family of ligands is well-known for its use as analytical reagents in the extraction and separation of several metal ions, also in the presence of N2-donor ligands such as 1,10-phenanthroline.
