Abstract

The thermodynamics of the isomeric radicals ClOO and OClO is treated on the basis of ab initio computed parameters. Regardless of the source of the inter-isomeric energetics, the ClOO species is predominant although the other structure can also become significant at higher temperatures. The presence of the less stable species increases the molar heat capacity by no more than about 5%. The results are of importance for ozone-depletion mechanisms.
