Summary
Starting from the definition of the potential temperature byvon Bezold (1888), the author defines rationally the principal potential temperatures which have been proposed. On this occasion he examines especially the adiabatic and the isobaric equivalent potential temperatures and that of the wet-bulb thermometer. He comes to the conclusion that the qualifications adiabatic and isobaric refer to different notions which can be substituted only in certain cases.
