Summary
Cupric oxide granules (percentage of CuO = 99.6) prepared in the laboratory were found unsatisfactory in the conventional micro-Dumas estimation using the Pregl filling and maintaining the temperature of the cupric oxide layer at 730±10° C. A simple modification in the permanent filling has been found to give excellent results with both laboratory prepared cupric oxide granules and commercially available wire-form cupric oxide. This consists in introducing a second reduced copper gauze roll, about 25 mm in length, just within the end portion of the hot zone of the permanent filling. Full details of the modified permanent filling are given.
