Studies in qualitative inorganic analysis. Part XLIII

The lanthanum nitrate test for the benzoate anion and the detection of benzoate in the presence of salicylate

  • Published:
Microchimica Acta Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

A sensitive and convenient test is proposed for benzoate, in which the anion gives a colour reaction with lanthanum nitrate in the presence of iodine and ammonia. Benzoate has been identified in the presence of salicylate by thin-layer chromatography.
