Summary
The effects of the implantation of 1–4 pairs of Corpora allata on the development of the eggs and the follicular epithelium ofCarausius morosus has been studied. The degree of the effects is determined by the number of the implantated C. allata. More than 3 pairs inhibit without exception any metamorphosis. All the eggs and their follicle epithelium of the giart larvae show defects of various kinds; especially of the egg shell. The development of the operculum and capitulum is independent of the development of the other parts of the shell. All deformities are explained by the disturbed proportion of Ecdyson and the hormone of the corpora allata. Normal development of the eggs requises the prior dissolution of the ventral glands of the head (=prothoracic glands).
