Abstract
A description is provided of the karyotype of Avena sativa cultivar Condor. From estimates of mean arm ratios and mean relative lengths, 11 of the 21 chromosomes have been identified. Certain differences are apparent between the Condor karyotype and that previously published for A. sativa cultivar Markton (Rajhathy, 1963). The significance of these differences is discussed in relation to the concept of a standard karyotype for the species. It is proposed that a new system of numbering the chromosomes be adopted in order to simplify identification
