Abstract.

Quantum-phase and population decay of image-potential states have been investigated by two-photon photoemission with femtosecond time resolution. The influence of steps and defects on quasielastic and inelastic scattering processes is illustrated for a vicinal Cu(119) surface and diluted adsorbate layers of CO and Cu on Cu(001).
