Abstract
Transmission spectra of bismuth trioxide thin films, of tetragonal and ortorhombic structures, are studied. Experimental data on the wavelength dependence of the refractive index are presented. The dispersion of the refractive index follows a single-oscillator model. Optical energy gap of tetragonal phase is smaller than that of orthorhombic phase; at 300 K these are 2.6 eV and 2.85 eV and at 77K are 2.8 and 3.1 eV, respectively.
