Summary

The formation and composition of cobalt complexes with 1-nitroso-2-naphthol (HL) in aqueous tartrate solutions were investigated by the differential pulsepolarographic and spectrophotometric techniques. The inert cobalt(III) complex CoIIIL3, which is formed in weakly acidic media, is not reduced at the dropping mercury electrode (DME) in the potential range between + 0.2 and −1.8 V vs. SCE. A reduction peak of the labile CoIIL2 complex is observed in weakly alkaline media.
