Abstract

Relativistic corrections toKα transition energies in compounds of sulphur, where the latter has a formal charge between −2 and +6 are derived. The results indicate that relativistic corrections do not depend on the number of electrons in the valence shell of the atom, thus confirming a correlating function previously derived between experimental shifts ofKα doublets and net charges on sulphur. In the monocentric approximation theoretical energies forKβ andL transitions in elemental sulphur and forKβ transitions in sulphides and sulphates are obtained. The results agree fairly well with experimental data and a tentative attribution ofKβ lines is given.
