Das Potential einer beliebigen, ruhenden Ladungsverteilung wird als Überlagerung von Multipol-Potentialen dargestellt. Diese Darstellung entsprich einer Entwicklung nachLegendreschen Polynomen.

The potential of any quiet charge distribution is represented by a superposition of multipole potentials in a short and clear way. This representation corresponds to an expansion in series ofLegendre polynomials.
