Abstract
The(q¯ q) creation and annihilation terms of the one-gluon-exchange Lagrangian are incorporated into the quark cluster model. A resonating group study of theπ N interaction within this extended model yields scattering phase shifts which are in qualitative agreement with experiment without any parameter adjustment.
