Summary

  1. 1.

Pot- and field-experiments were carried out in both sandy and medium clay soils to determine the fertilizing value of Huleh peat, both alone and in combination with manure and/or KPN.

  2. 2.

Tests to compare the value of light and heavy peat-treatments were carried out in both pot and field-experiments.

  3. 3.

Tests to determine the relative effectiveness of peat from upper and lower layers (0.5, 1.0 and 3.0 m) and from various locations, were carried out in the pot-experiments.

  4. 4.

Persistence of fertilizing-value of peat was compared with that of manure in the pot-experiments.

  5. 5.

Pot-experiments with dehydrated peat were carried out to determine the best drying method from the standpoint of fertilizing-value.

  6. 6.

Preliminary trials were made to determine the most effective method of combining peat and KPN.

  7. 7.

Botanical and soil-survey data is briefly reviewed and a chemical analysis of the peat is presented.
