67Zn Mössbauer study of lattice-dynamical effects and hyperfine interactions in Cu−Zn alloys

Hyperfine Interactions Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Abstract

Using the 93.3-keV Mössbauer resonance in67Zn we have investigated Cu−Zn alloys containing 16.6 wt.% Zn (α-phase) and 50.5 wt.% Zn (β′-phase) in the temperature range between 4.2 and 60 K. A comparison of the data on the Lamb-Mössbauer factor (LMF) and on the second-order Doppler effect (SOD) for both structures shows that no β′-phase exists in the α-alloy contrary to the prediction of a hypothetical phase diagram proposed recently. LMF and SOD of both alloys are in good agreement with the results of model calculations on interatomic force constants.
