Summary
-
1.
The dependence of the activity of SrCO3 in the polymerization of ethylene oxide on the adsorption of water on its surface was investigated, and it was shown that an optimum surface concentration of water exists.
-
2.
The optimum concentration of water on the surface corresponds to a monolayer (5·1014 molecules/cm2).
-
3.
The adsorption of water on strontium carbonate is basically physical in nature (form of the isotherms, heats of adsorption, IR-spectra of the adsorbed molecules).
-
4.
It was proposed that the active centers themselves arise during the induction period in the interaction of water and the monomer on the surface of the catalyst.
